Assessments for Candidates Interested in being District Approved Translators

The English Language Acquisition Department is now coordinating and conducting assessments for District Approved Translators. The Communication Department Language Services office is advising the ELA Department on the mechanics and general features of the assessment, but ELA is determining specifics, such as assessment scheduling, notifications and results.
The assessment is the tool that APS uses to determine candidates’ abilities to interpret consecutively from English into Spanish and vice versa. Once a candidate passes the assessment, the candidate may then proceed with the process of becoming a District Approved Translator. If you or someone you know would like to seek an opportunity to provide interpretation services to APS, please contact Maritza Jimenez in the ELA Department. ELA Department now Managing Interpreting Equipment

The English Language Acquisition Department is now lending out and managing interpreting equipment. The CDLS office is no longer taking requests for equipment, but we are happy to provide guidelines or help address technical problems with the equipment.

School-level Interpretation and Translation Services have Moved to ELA

As of July 1, 2009 all school-level interpretation and translation services are being coordinated by the English Language Acquisition Department. The cohort of District Approved Translators is now under the supervision and direction of the ELA Department. For languages other than Spanish, the district continues to access interpretation and translation services by way of the agencies approved as vendors for APS. Although the Communication Department Language Services team is no longer coordinating interpretation and translation services for school sites, we continue to provide these services for district-level events, activities, programs, initiatives, documents and publications.
