ELA Department Managing School-level Interpretation and Translation Services and Interpreting Equipment
August 10, 2010

The English Language Acquisition Department oversees school-level interpretation and translation services. The cohort of District Approved Translators functions under the supervision and direction of the ELA Department, as well. This includes all aspects of DAT services, such as assessments for interpreter candidates and training of new and existing DATs. For languages other than Spanish, district staff can access interpretation and translation services by way of the agencies approved as vendors for APS. For more information, please contact the ELA Department or visit ela.aurorak12.org/translators/.

The ELA Department also lends out and manages interpreting equipment. The CDLS office does not process requests for equipment, but we are happy to provide guidelines or help address technical problems with the equipment. To request equipment, please refer to the form located on the ELA Web site: ela.aurorak12.org/translators/request-interpretation-equipment/.

The Communication Department Language Services team provides and coordinates translation and interpretation services for district-level events, activities, programs, initiatives, documents and publications. In addition, the CDLS office provides standard Spanish translations of terms commonly used in APS.  We encourage staff members and District Approved Translators to refer to these standard translations. The Resources page contains translations of school supplies, terms commonly used in APS and titles of district administrative officers and board of education members. The comprehensive compilation of terms translated into Spanish is under development, and CDLS staff members are happy to assist you with terms not found in the other resources. Also, we are always looking to expand the dictionary, so feel free to send us terms you would like to see translated, as well as any suggestions you think may help you and others throughout the district.

Please feel free to contact the CDLS team should you have questions or concerns regarding district-level services or if you simply need some general guidance regarding translation and interpretation services.

What’s New with CDLS?

CDLS is posting translations of currently used, district-level documents, Web pages and resources

July 11, 2011

The Communication Department Language Services team is constructing resources pageson the APS Web site for both staff and parents. The pages are aimed at providing school and district staff and parents resources related to translation and interpretation services. These pages will also contain links to APS Web pages that are fully translated into Spanish by our office, links to pages that contain translated content and downloads and links to non-district resources and Web sites.

The translations and resources pages will provide parents and staff a way of accessing, viewing and printing translated documents, guides and other resources. These Web pages will include Web content and district documents provided in the district's current, top six languages: English, Spanish, Vietnamese, Amharic, Korean and Nepali.

The Staff Resources site contains several categorized Web pages. The Parent Translations & Resources site also will contain several Web pages, categorized by language.

Please feel free to contact the CDLS team if you have questions or suggestions regarding resources and translations.
